PLACES TO STAY IN PORTLAND Airbnb is a good option in North Portland, or Northeast Portland. All of the following additional accomodations are within a 10-15 minute drive to the studio or near the MAX Yellow Light Rail Line which will take you directly to my studio within 30 minutes. The below suggested hotels range in price from moderate to luxury. Portland International Guesthouse in the heart of the trendy NW shopping district. This one comes HIGHLY recommended, receives excellent Yelp reviews, and is run by the husband of one of my interns! European-style accommodations for the budget minded, independent traveler. The closest cheap hotel is the Montecello, on North Interstate Ave. The Monticello Motel is a clean, family owned and reasonably priced budget motel that has been favorably reviewed by former students. If you are young and adventurous and don’t mind being kept up late by a live band downstairs, the quirky and historic White Eagle Saloon is just a few blocks away! They hand out earplugs to you after you sign in. The hotel rooms are located directly above the saloon. With its nightly live music tradition, this is not for the light sleeper nor the early riser – be prepared to "rock into the night!" And it has a reputation for having a resident ghost. Other good ones in NE Portland are: The Kennedy School is a 15 minute drive, it’s in NE Portland. VERY special hotel, it was a charming old elementary school which has been artfully turned into a bustling hotel complete with dining, outdoor fireeplaces, a soaking pool, and a theater full of couches where you can sip a beer and have a slice while you catch a late night flick. Worth a visit even if you're not staying there. McMenamin's food is not recommended, and the beer is sub-par for Portland, but the different themed bars are a total hoot. These include The Honors Bar, the Detention Room Bar (a cigar bar!), and the Boiler Room Bar (pool tables, shuffleboard, late-nite food). Everett Street Guesthouse The Jupiter Hotel is seriously hip and happening and you can catch a music show in the next door Doug Fir Lounge. There are many cool hotels across the river: Ace Hotel - one of our favorites, is a stylish throwback with a black and white photo booth in the lobby! Clyde Common is adjacent, and it's super close to Powell's Books. The Nines Hotel - Best rooftop bar in Southwest Portland. Tres chic. Hotel Rose - a funky, fun and “oh-so-Portland” boutique hotel located directly across from Tom McCall Waterfront Park on the beautiful Willamette River. ©2016 Atelier Meridian Fine art printmaking studio - 820 N River St. Studio B-1 Portland, OR 97227- Tel 503-729-9013 |
